Greetings and welcome to Old Mountain Field’s website! We are a women-owned gallery based in the historic town of Matewan, West Virginia, dedicated to promoting the creative work of artists and craftspeople across Appalachia. Our mission is simple but powerful: to celebrate handmade artistry from West Virginia and Kentucky while connecting makers with those who appreciate their craft.

Each month, we highlight one of the talented artists whose work can be found in our Matewan shop. Even if you’re unable to visit in person, you can still support these artisans — simply call us at (304) 784-6778, and we’ll be glad to help with your purchase. We cheerfully ship nationwide so that Appalachian creativity can reach your home, no matter where you are.

This month, we are proud to introduce Christy Jo Berry, the skilled potter behind Brass Bell Pottery in Kanawha County, West Virginia. For the past 18 years, Christy Jo has refined her craft in her studio in St. Albans, on land that has been in her family since before the Civil War. Inspired by nature and always evolving, her pottery is known for its exquisite craftsmanship, functionality, and beauty.

Christy Jo hopes that her work, “feels as good in your hands as it does in hers.” Her pottery strikes a rare balance between decorative artistry and everyday use, making each piece a joy to own and share.

A selection of Brass Bell Pottery is available at our Old Mountain Field shop in Matewan, WV, as well as here on our website. You can also find her work at Tamarack in Beckley, WV, or directly at her St. Albans studio.
